Peugeot 106 S16 (2001)
Tops in handling, this perfectly packaged light and rigid hatchback has a bigger-than-you-need engine. Left hand drive examples in fine condition are available here in Japan.
This high-performance version of Peugeot’s popular European city car is in great shape and reasonably priced, making it a classic example of the used vehicles available in Japan.
Light and compact with a four-wheel independent suspension and high-performance engine, it’s easy to drive fast on almost any road, which explains why it was so successful in rally car racing.
The high-revving fuel-injected 16-valve 1.6-liter inline 4 engine produces 145 Nm of torque and 120 PS at 6,600 rpm, while a manual 5-speed gearbox puts you in total control.
This particular 2001 Peugeot 106 S16 (Rallye in some markets) with bold yellow finish is missing the trademark white steel wheels, but otherwise it’s stock with great features like three-color seats. Make a similar vehicle yours — like this Peugeot S16 we exported awhile back — with a little help from Japan Car Direct.
