2002 Maserati 3200GT Assetto Corsa
Sold and Exported
Super luxury meets supercar performance in the Maserati 3200GT Assetto Corsa, a limited edition Maserati with a special handling package that heightens both driving pleasure and exclusivity. Only 259 Assetto Corsas (“race setup” in Italian) gwere ever produced and a few made their way across the ocean to Japan and the Japanese auto auctions.
The sleek body, designed by Italdesign Giugiaro, competes favorably with the contemporary Jaguar XKR and comes in three colors (Grigio Touring, Grigio Alfieri and Rosso Mondiale) with grey 15-spoke 18-inch BBS alloy wheels and red four-pot calipers that set it apart from other 3200 GT two-door coupés. This one was a sure stand out in the JDM market.
The body may look small, but it accommodates a spacious (especially by Japanese standards) and sumptuous interior designed by Enrico Fumia that comfortably seats four adults. Assetto Corsa owners enjoy specially perforated Connolly leather seats, drilled aluminum sport pedals and ‘Assetto Corsa’ engravings on the sill kick panels.
The powerful all-aluminum, 3.2-liter V8 engine accelerates you from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.12 seconds and delivers a top speed of 280 km/h (174 mph). Featuring 32 valves, two overhead camshafts per bank, two crossflow turbochargers, “drive by wire” electronic throttle control, and your choice of 6-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmission, it generates 370 PS (272 kW; 365 hp) at 6250 rpm and 491 N·m (362 lb·ft) at 4500 rpm. This supercar performance comes on strong and smooth with a signature Maserati engine roar that thrills the senses.
The Assetto Corsa’s special handling package significantly improves handling by lowering the body, stiffening the springs, enlarging the front anti-roll bar, adding soft Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires, providing more direct steering and electronically adjusting the dampers in response to vertical and lateral acceleration. The four-wheel double wishbone suspension with Bilstein shock absorbers, vented cross-drilled Brembo disk brakes with Pagid RS421 pads, and Bosch ASR traction control system — which can be set for light loads, heavy loads or switched off entirely — work together for sporty handling that sticks to the road like glue.
