2011 BMW ActiveHybrid 7
Sold and Exported
The 2011 BMW ActiveHybrid 7 delivers luxury, excitement and eco responsibility all in one beautiful package.
Other contemporary hybrids may offer more power or fuel efficiency, but none provide both benefits at such a high level. You could enjoy higher fuel efficiency in the 2011 Mercedes-Benz S400 Hybrid, for example, only by settling for less power, handling and driving fun. Another option is the wonderfully practical and efficient Toyota Prius, but it’s nowhere near as luxurious or exciting as the ActiveHybrid 7.
While the advantages of the 2011 BMW ActiveHybrid 7 initially came at a restrictive price, used models from dealer auctions are now more affordable, especially when imported from Japan.
The 2011 BMW ActiveHybrid 7 is powered by a special version of BMW’s potent twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 gasoline engine, which is teamed with a battery-powered electric motor to boost output by 20 horsepower. The resulting 455 hp @ 5500 rpm and 515 ft-lbs. @ 2000 rpm propels the vehicle from 0 to 60 mph in less than 5 seconds.
Of course, the motor is also there to raise fuel efficiency and lower emissions. It accomplishes this feat by starting the engine and providing supplemental power without gasoline. Fuel efficiency is further heightened by regenerative braking that recharges the lithium-ion battery and an auto-off feature that switches the engine off at standstills. All of these features work together to achieve a solid 17 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway.
Handling is outstanding thanks to stability control, an adaptive adjustable suspension, 4-wheel ABS and a ride that’s somewhat firmer than on other luxury hybrid sedans. This handling combines with powerful acceleration to make driving the ActiveHybrid 7 fun, especially on winding roads.
When road conditions change, you can always change performance characteristics by activating one of four Driving Dynamics Control settings with the press of a button. These settings — ranging from Comfort to Sport — adjust shifting, throttle, shock absorber, steering and stability control parameters to make a difference you can feel. The shiftable 8-speed automatic transmission also lets you change gears as desired.
As you would expect from a model in the flagship 7 Series, the interior is truly luxurious. Surfaces are beautifully crafted with wood and leather trim. Superb leather seating provides utmost comfort and support for people of all sizes and the heated front seats are highly adjustable. All occupants enjoy plenty of space for legs, heads, elbows and storage.
The ActiveHybrid 7 also overflows with advanced amenities. There are voice-activated and smartphone-integrated features for communication, a four-zone automatic climate control system for comfort, a premium 16-speaker audio system with HD radio and surround sound for entertainment, conveniences ranging from a power-closing trunk to rain-sensing wipers and much more.
