1992 Porsche 964 Turbo
Sold and Exported
The 964 Turbo is considered one of the most beautiful 911s ever. All the classic 911 supercar styling cues are clearly there, from raised round headlights to dramatically flared wheel arches and fixed tea-tray rear spoiler with raised black border. Every curve is impeccably refined to improve aerodynamics and the bumpers are more integrated than on earlier 911s. These sporty looks are further accented by handsome aluminum 17″ wheels with five-spoke 964 Carrera Cup car design, two oval side tailpipes, aerodynamic door mirrors that became standard on all Porsche models, and black Brembo brake calipers. It’s easy to see why this model was so popular in Japan and throughout the world, selling a total of 3,660 units.
Porsche launched the 964 as a completely new 911 series in 1989. While borrowing heavily from the design of earlier 911s, it fully renewed the chassis and well over 80% of the vehicle’s components. The Turbo version was introduced two years later, in 1991. Its air-cooled, turbocharged, flat-six 3.3-liter engine with intercooler was taken from the 930 Turbo, but refined to run smoother with less turbo lag and produce a more powerful 320 PS (235 kW; 316 hp) at 5750 rpm.
Engine performance was excellent for its time, propelling the vehicle from 0 to 60 mph in a very impressive 4.4 seconds and delivering a top speed of 270 kph (168 mph). Handling is also outstanding thanks to coil springs at the corners, ABS, power steering (on RHD cars only) and large Brembo brakes. From the beginning, the 964 Turbo performed well in racing, winning the IMSA Bridgestone Supercar Championship in 1991.
This pristine, totally stock, silver 1992 Porsche 964 Turbo was extremely well cared for by its proud Japanese owner. It includes standard dual airbags, power windows, power seats, air conditioning and a factory sunroof. While it isn’t as collectable as the later and significantly more expensive Turbo S, it can be made just as fast with only minor modifications.
