						I worked with Mathew on getting my first Japanese car. The process and communication was great that I decided to buy 2 cars in the same week. Their services are exactly what you'd hope for - they help you find the right vehicle at the right price, and they help you get it on its way to a port near you. Mike's guidance around the timing and paperwork ends was really great. We picked up our Mitsubishi Minicab in Freeport, TX and got it home over the weekend (on schedule). 						My experience was so incredible working with Japan Car Direct. It almost didn't feel real, I followed their instructions provided and was in browsing the auction database in no time at all. When I was ready I sent an email and Yoshiro worked with me almost every step of the way. I purchased my car in August and received it in early January due to several holidays over the time and a minor delay with the vehicle (ECM had a leaky capacitor, a shop repaired it and it's been good as new). I 100% suggest these guys any time someone asks about obtaining a vintage JDM car because the service is amazing and as long as you're smart about what you're buying (know how to read the auction repair sheets etc.) the cars are exactly if not better than expected. Thank you again for helping me get into my a dream car of mine.

						I'm giving Mathew and his crew five stars for excellent service, and for delivering what they promised. I am a first-time importer for a van I will use myself (no resale). Mathew took me through the selection process, helped steer me away from potentially bad deals, and communicated regularly once I had selected my vehicle. He took me through the export process, and recommended Armin at EasyISF to help with the import process. I was able to track my van across the ocean, and Armin helped me work through customs clearance up through the day I picked up my tiny van. Sometimes you have to trust people and this time I picked the correct people to trust; both with my funds being wired to Japan and with trusting that Mathew and his crew had my best interests in mind. I am a very satisfied customer and I strongly recommend Japan Car Direct for your import experience. They delivered exactly what they promised.

						I purchased a 1994 4wd Suzuki Carry Kei truck through JCD. Yoshi helped me during the process and after nearly 3 months and over 100 emails back and forth between questions and translations of auction sheets I finally decided on a truck. I've now had it for nearly a month and couldn't be happier with the purchase. They are extremely promt with responses and answered all questions I had. Being completely new at the importing process I never felt uneasy with my decision. If I ever decide to import another vehicle I will definitely use them again.

						Looking to replace an old Toyota Pickup, I was interested in a smaller truck with better gas mileage, and that would be more fun to drive. Kei Trucks and Japan Car Direct to the rescue ! 						We had been looking for a Toyota AE86 for many years, and in late 2022, decided to take the plunge and purchase from Japan a fabulous red over black example. After scoping out a number of agents/importers based in Japan, we settled on Japan Car Direct, and we're very happy that we did! We quickly found that communications with Matt and the Japan Car Direct team were always prompt, insightful and respectful, giving us a feeling of trust in the company. At our request Matt organised a mechanical and general inspection of the car, which was located a few hours north-east of Tokyo. Whilst the mechanic was looking at the car, we were able to do a video call through Matt so we could see the AE86 for ourselves and ask questions of the selling agent live - all beautifully translated by Matt. This gave us a digital first-hand viewing of the car, and was key to us making our final decision to purchase. The subsequent transaction for the purchase itself was a smooth and stress-free operation as we were guided through the process by Japan Car Direct. The entire process, from first communication, to the inspection, the transaction, the shipping process, and to when the car arrived - was all incredibly smooth and trouble-free. As a result of all this good service, we now have a wonderful JDM Toyota AE86 here in Australia. 						Along with many of the customers here, this was my first time importing a vehicle. Originally, I had contacted a local importer who had great reviews in my area. Long story short, the local importer struggled to move quickly and over the course of around 3 months was unable to close the deal with two vehicles I had intended to make strong offers on. Upset with my experience with the local importer and somewhat discouraged with the entire process I decided to part ways and look into working with Japan Car Direct. At first I was hesitant to do business with a company I had never heard of nor was able to meet with in person. However, Matt soon gave me the assurance that I needed. Being my first import, I had a lot of questions and a lot of concerns with the entire process. Matt was consistently responsive and patient with all of my inquiries and confidently led me through the entire process. From understanding how the auction houses operate, the culture of used vehicle resale in Japan including dealership sales vs auctions, advice on what to look for, and honest feedback on which vehicles to stay away from. I was looking for a very specific and rarely available Land Cruiser and Matt worked with me for over 3 months waiting for the right vehicle to appear at auction. I was very diligent and checking every day for a cruiser to become available. Any cruiser I was interested in, Matt would translate the auction sheet for me and give me his opinion of the vehicle. To my relief, a cruiser finally showed up at auction… However, there was less than 12 hours before the auction would take place. Matt was soon in touch with me and calmly walked me through my options, the bidding process, opinions on what I could expect the vehicle to sell for, and any questions I had along the way. Within that small time frame, not only was he prepared to bid on my behalf, he had also arranged a third party inspection with the auction house to get a second opinion of the vehicle’s condition. After winning the bid, Matt sent me a recording of the entire auction with voice commentary - it was an unexpected detail that brought me closer to the process. I am confident that there is no way my original importer could have pulled this off, and I couldn’t have been happier to have worked with Matt and Japan Car Direct. After the auction, there were no hidden fees or extra charges. Everything was clear from the beginning and transparent through the entire process. I was a very demanding client, and I can’t stress enough how professional and patient Matt was with me as a customer thoughout the extended length of time we searched for the right vehicle. In the end I am extremely satisfied with the experience and as nervous as I was starting the process I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend JCD to anyone reading this, my family, friends, or do business with them again personally in the future. 						I recently found JCD through an article online about importing vehicles into the US. I sent them an email and Yoshiro was quick to get back. He too was from California which was helpful when it came to registering the vehicle, recommending diesel vehicles. When it came to finding a vehicle, I essentially send Yoshiro the link's to vehicles that I want translated. But he takes it a step further often using his own personal intuition to let me know if we should pass or bid on a vehicle. To be honest I was a little skeptical at first. Buying and shipping a vehicle from another country is a scary project. About two months later we were about to find a 1996 Townace in good condition at a great price...Yoshiro can tell you how difficult I was in finding it. 100% recommend Yoshiro and the guys at Japan Car Direct and am already looking for my 2nd import!

						I purchased / imported some cars from Japan to USA with others before using JCD, so I have a little experience ...Although I am just doing this for fun I have imported 7 cars now. The 3 I bought before going with JCD all had hidden problems. Of course, buying auction cars is always "buyer beware". But with JCD Yoshi always pointed out small details and gave some suggestions before the bidding. He didn't say "no, don't do it" but gave a hint ... ok a few times he definitely said "DON'T" ... but that's what I want and need from someone facilitating this kind of purchase! Communication has always been A+ from Yoshi and JCD. They are on the ball... The fees are reasonable, and while I bet you can get a car to a US port for a few dollars less, I am not sure why you would want to. There are A LOT of misrepresented cars in the Japan auction system. It's thorough in some ways, but you have to know the risks and do what you can to mitigate them. JCD should really be part of that plan, part of understanding what you are going to get before you get it. A couple hundred bucks for inspections or other JCD services could prevent thousands later. I know because I learned the hard way by using others before coming to my senses and using JCD.

I have just ordered my second car from Yoshiro Nakajima at Japan Car Direct. Keep in mind my first car has only just gotten to the port, I think that alone speaks volumes. So far it has been an awesome and painless experience. I did not go the advised route of auctions. Not because I could not have save a bunch of money but because I have no patience. Not only was Yoshi understanding and responsive to my constant questions, He accommodated nearly all of my requests(some were just crazy I admit). Even so we found a car at a local to Japan used car dealer and he helped me obtain the car, get it fully serviced and delivered to the port. I will update this review once the car is here and I can let you know how smooth the import process was and how my paperwork came. Trust, I have full faith in Yoshi, and Japan Car Direct that this will go painlessly as well. I will do a follow up review so people can get a full review of all process points. One last thing I want to add is that my budget was extremely low and he never made me feel it was not important or a priority for him. He never made me feel like this was a petty or small job. I feel this too speaks volumes about character. Thus far nothing but five stars.

						Awesome experience working with the guys at Japan Car Direct, I was looking to find a specific spec J90 Land Cruiser Prado (2 door, black, low milage) and managed to locate one at a used car dealer in Japan. Mason helped every step of the way to coordinate with the dealer, make the deal, transport the car to the port, coordinate with the port staff to store the Prado till it turned 25 years on the month (had to sit at the port a couple months), and then finally have the Prado cleaned before it was loaded on the boat. Lots of pictures always accompanied updates and any questions I had were answered with no problems. Everything was super easy and zero stress. I started my search for a JZA80 Supra 2 years ago by just looking on JCD because I was really scared that I would go into it with the money I had, and be overwhelmed by fees and other costs, I even made a spreadsheet with every cost listed on JCD’s website. And it turns out, that feeling I was scared of never came. Mathew at JCD is a gem, he helped me from my viewing days all the way to the end, translating and giving great advice on what the steps are, making everything crystal clear and easily digestible. All of my questions, and misunderstandings were dealt with with kindness and professionalism. Patience is a virtue that JCD (and from my experience Mathew) have in droves. Knowing how worried I was, Mathew's help was the reason I managed to stay sane through my first large purchase and my first vehicle import. Even up to the time when the car was out of Japan and en route to Canada, Mathew put me on to Al Thompson who was ALSO phenomenal to work with, he fought for me with the docks who have slowed down due to covid, and we got my Supra released in jig time! He was very quick to respond to my emails and was patiently available day in and day out. Mason provided ongoing support to help me select the car I wanted and translated the Japanese description from the auction website. He used to record videos to explain all the available info about the cars I selected and helped me exclude the cars with features I didn't want. Mason also offered his expert advice about the maximum bidding amount but worked hard to get the car with the lowest price possible. He was amazingly dedicated to make sure I got what I wanted and patiently answered all my questions. He then helped me get extra inspections after winning the auction. I had no concern transferring money to buy and bid for the car because I know for sure that Mason and his friends at JCD are trust worthy. 						I used Japan Car Direct to bid and win a Daihatsu HiJet Cargo. Mason was my point of contact and was brilliant in guiding me through the process, detailing how to make the initial deposit to allow bidding, detailing the auction costs and shipping costs, so that I could work out a budget. The platform for searching vehicles that are coming to auction was easy to use, and Mason was very helpful in explaining all the vehicle description codes and provided a really useful review for individual vehicles that I short listed, and then arranged for the vehicle to be independently inspected prior to bidding. Payment on my winning vehicle was straight forward by BACs to Japan Car Direct and then Mason took care of arranging shipping, and sending through the bill of lading and other documents. Once the vehicle arrived at the JCD yard I received very comprehensive photos. Shipping took about 7 weeks from Japan to Newcastle in the UK, and the vehicle arrived safely in perfect condition. I used RJJ Freight for customs clearance, which made the process of getting the vehicle into the UK stress free.

						Ever since my first trip to Japan in 2016, I have wanted a kei vehicle. I was finally in a position to get one this year, but I didn't know where to start. After doing a lot of research and talking to a few folks who had done it before, I decided to use Japan Car Direct. The primary reason I chose JCD was that I kept hearing them described as "helpful" and "trustworthy". I think these two qualities are important, but particularly for a first time importer like myself. After all, I was going to be sending thousands of dollars halfway across the world for a vehicle I'd never seen, so I wanted someone I could trust and who would help me through the process. Yoshiro absolutely delivered on both counts for Japan Car Direct. From the first e-mail he was very responsive, took time to answer all my questions, and helped guide me to the right truck. The JCD team is great and I can't recommend them enough. I'm sure I will be doing business with them again when I'm ready for my next Japanese car! As for the vehicle, I snagged a very clean 1994 Acty SDX that showed up in even better condition than I expected. 						Working with JCD, specifically Yoshiro, has been a thoroughly pleasant experience from start to finish. They were able to answer all my myriad of ever expanding questions regarding not only the purchase process but intermediate shipping, receiving. Once I had decided on the vehicle itself they were quite helpful with specific details pertaining to the particular model I was after, spotting problems and subtle differences in options which I likely would have overlooked being new to the process and vehicles. The one hang-up with shipping which occurred was handled quickly, professionally and fairly leaving me feeling very confident in using this company again for my next importation. All told putting my trust and money in someone half way around the world and then hoping I would actually receive what was agreed upon was daunting to say the least. 						I asked Japan Car Direct to sell my old Rav4J just before I left Japan in September. Got almost $2,000 total for it, which was amazing. In Japan, there is ZERO resale value for cars. In fact, when I "sold" my old Eunos Roadster (Miyata) to a resale place, the said they were being generous giving me $50 for it. So actually getting a VERY fair price for my old car from JCD definitely put a smile on my face. So thanks for that, guys!

						After doing a bit of research I settled on using JCD to bid at the Japanese auctions for me and to facilitate the import of my dream car into Australia. Whenever I saw a car of interest, Mason would normally reply within an hour with a short video translating the Japanese auction sheet and additional info he had. They also organised additional inspections and photos at your request before you bid. Once I placed a winning bid, they used a partner shipping company (Dolphin shipping) and transferred all the info to them. From there the shipping company had a few extra questions and shipped my car and sent me an invoice for their services just before the car landed in AUS. These guys are very accessible, friendly and do a great job. Highly recommend. Thanks Mason for a job well done!

						I'd been looking to buy an RF series Honda Stepwagon to convert into a mini camper for a while but the UK prices always seemed too high. I had joined a few JDM import sites to get an idea of auction prices and costs (including Japan Car Direct) but just couldn't bring myself to take the next step, it seemed such a risk ! Finally after reading so many good reviews for JCD (and Mathew in particular) I took the plunge and contacted Mathew. After he answered my many questions regarding costs, fees etc I felt confident enough to pay the deposit and start hunting the Japanese auctions for my Steppy. My budget for the Steppy was pretty low (pathetic even !) but I felt Mat still put the same effort into replying to my questions and queries as he would have done if my budget had been into the tens of thousands. The result was I now have a very tidy Stepwagon with lower mileage than any vehicle I've ever owned, I've paid far less for it then I would have done buying in the UK and I've got a bigger budget now for the camper conversion. I wouldn't hesitate to buy through them again, and hope to do so soon.

						I purchased a JDM 2008 Toyota Prius through Japan Car Direct last year. The export agent, Mason, was easy to work with and made the process predictable and straight forward, so there were no surprises or hidden costs with the car itself and with logistics. The logistics supplier that Mason referred to in Vancouver to import the car into Canada was also very helpful and made the process stress free. Mason went above and beyond just facilitating the transaction and sourced new tires, rims, and accessories for the car that the car needed or that didn't come with the car. This was a big help as these parts and accessories for a 2008 Prius were either unavailable in Canada or would have cost an arm and a leg to purchase through a dealership. I was amazed at how good condition the car was in when it arrived. I picked it up in Vancouver and, right off the boat, drove it over 4000km straight to Ontario to get it home without any mechanical issues along the way.
