RM Sotheby’s just sold a one-of-a-kind 2017 Mercedes-AMG GT3 Laureus for $885,000 at the Monterey Conference Center in Monterey, California. That’s over twice the ‎$420,000 base price of a 2017 Mercedes-AMG GT3.

The gorgeous vehicle had never been raced and was specially designed with mirror-like chrome paintwork, exposed carbon parts, an uprated 650 bhp engine and Laureus logos on the doors to support the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation, which will receive proceeds from the auction to help disadvantaged children worldwide.

The Mercedes-AMG GT3 was developed in-house based on the production version of the GT and complies with FIA homologation regulations. Rocketing from zero to 60 mph in 2.9 seconds with a top speed of 200 mph, it’s been competitively raced by around 50 customer teams in challenging GT competitions like the 24 Hours of Nürburgring and 24 Hours of Dubai and achieved 85 overall victories as well as 168 class victories.

Mercedes and AMG have a long history of jointly building highly successful FIA homologated vehicles, including the AMG-Mercedes 190 E 2.5-16 Evolution II, which launched epic battles with BMW in the German Touring Car Championship (DTM) that are still celebrated by enthusiasts today. Between 1990 and 1993, the Evo II scored an amazing 52 victories. Only 502 of these vehicles were produced, but they can still be found in Japan, where the model below (build number 201) with beautiful “blauschwarz” blue/black metallic finish and black leather interior was affordably purchased and exported by Japan Car Direct LLC.
