For Sheer Muscle, for Power to the Road, for 0-60 Performance, Very Few Cars Can Beat a Lancer Evo
S and E Lancer Evo to NZ IN TEXT PHOTO 6. Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution is big time muscle to import direct from Japan
High Tech Muscle and Bang for the Buck: Lancer Evolution All the Way If you want a used Japanese supercar from the ‘90s (which can now be imported to the USA) that gives you reliable low five (or even sub five!) second 0-60 times, you’ve got three really good choices: The Toyota Celica GT-Four, the Subaru Impreza WRX STi, and the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution. I call these cars the “244T” cars. They’ve got 2-liter, 4-cylinder engines, 4-wheel-drive, and are Turbo charged. So in my car world they are the 244T class. And a stunning class of performance vehicles they are, just stunning. These cars are all relatively light, with the GT-Four being the heaviest at 1,380kg, and with the lighter examples of the STi and the Evo coming in at under 1,300kg. That is light for cars producing from, say, around 250ps all the way up to over 300ps. We’re talking only the cars from the 1990s here, guys, because those are the cars I know (I’ve had a 1995 GT-4 and a 1996 STi) and also because they are in the “sweet spot” right now if you want to import a used all-wheel-drive supercar from Japan yourself. (Time of writing: summer, 2021.) If the used car from Japan that you are looking at is ov [...]

Both are remarkably fun to drive, thanks to handling and acceleration that rival some of the world’s fastest production cars. And both offer the sporty looks of serious performance machines. So how does a car lover in the market for a used sports car confidently choose b [...]
Lancia Delta HF Integrale Evoluzione II Collezione Final Edition JDM import from japan rally car

In 1986, the FIA (Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile) disestablished the super popular Group B class after a series of major accidents at its races caused injuries and fatalities to drivers and spectators, including driver Henri Toivonen driving a Lancia Delta. For the 1987 season, Lancia and other manufacturers were forced to compete with Group A cars. Lancia decided that they would enter their trusty Lancia Delta HF 4WD and easily won the 1987 championship which increased sales in their home market and increased their name recognition abroad. Their subsequent victories in the next 5 World Rally Championships with the Lancia Delta HF made the vehicle legendary among sports car enthusiasts.

Lancia withdrew from rallying after they failed to win their 7th championship in 1993. However, Lancia’s final tally in the 7 years they competed include: 4 drivers titles from 1987-89 and in 1991 by their drivers, and 6 consecutive manufacturers championships from 1987-1992, which still [...]

Lancer Evo 6 Tommi Makinen Edition maximum torque World Rally Championships WRC jdm import performance cars from japan

Mitsubishi released its first factory works edition for the legendary Lancer Evolution series in January 2000: the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VI Tommi Makinen Edition. The Tommi Makinen Edition, also known in some circles as the, “T.M.E” or “Evo 6.5”, was created by Mitsubishi to commemorate the record 4 consecutive WRC championships won by Mitsubishi driver Tommi Makinen. The “TomiMaki”, as the car is known in Japan, is most popular with Rally enthusiasts in the UK and Europe where many are exported to. Many more are still available to be had at Japanese auto auctions.

On the outside, the Tommi Makinen Edition had an optional special paint package, Passion Red with grey, black and white stripes, that was inspired by the Tommi Makinen WRC works car and wore the same design Enkei 17” wheels. On the inside, the car came equipped with Recaro bucket seats with the Tommi Makinen logo stitched into the back rest.

1995 Lancia Delta Integrale Evo II

Ultimate roadhandling exhilaration. The rare Lancia Delta Integrale Evo II Final Edition.
1995 Lancia Delta Integrale Evo II Final Edition

Back in 1995, the last year of production for the Lancia Delta Integrale Evo II, Lancia was kind enough to produce a very special model for the Japanese market known as the Final Edition.

As you can see from this stunning 1995 Final Edition in the hands of Japan Car Direct, it is something special indeed. The beautiful bordeaux finish is accented with two central yellow stripes running from nose to rear spoiler. The wheels are an attractive gunmetal gray. There are carbon fiber accents on the steering wheel and beneath the stick shift, and the cabin features the highest level of trim with features like silver gauges and a pushbutton start. There are also sporty red cam covers beneath the hood.

For those who love pushing their driving skills to the limit around surpentine curves, the Final Edition doesn’t disappoint. It offers the same legendary handling and high power-to-weight ratio as other Lancia Delta [...]

1995 Lancia Delta HF Integrale Evo II Blue Lagos

Limited Edition Refinement, The Lancia Delta HF Integrale Evo II Blue Lagos!!
Lancia Delta HF Integrale Evo II Blue Lagos

The Lancia Delta Integrale dominated the world of rally racing for six consecutive years, from 1987 to 1992.

With such an impressive track record, one might expect this Italian sports machine to look super smooth and sporty. But most are surprisingly plain. To satisfy demanding enthusiasts who want more than extraordinary performance, Lancia produced one limited-edition model offering especially attractive styling — the 2014 Blue Lagos.

Only 215 of these beauties were produced, making them a true collectors’ item, and one was recently in the possession of Japan Car Direct in Japan.

Featuring an all-blue metallic finish, silver multi-spoked wheels, cream leather interior and handsome blue cam covers, this alluring Lancia Delta HF Integrale Evo II Blue Lagos is a joy to behold. It was produced in 1994 imported directly to Japan, and purchased in 1995 by a highly appreciative owner in Japan who has lovingly cared for every detail.

Outside, the only hints of [...]

2000 Lancer RS Evo VI

Raw rally-bred excitement! The Mitsubishi Lancer Evo VI
2000 Lancer RS Evo VI

The race-ready Mitsubishi Lancer Evo was a phenomenon for 20 years. It put supercars to shame with each new generation, yet was priced to compete with family sedans. No wonder it became one of the most popular sports cars in history.

Many enthusiasts consider the VI generation the best of the breed because of its superior combination of power, handling and aerodynamics. It also gave Tommi Makinen his fourth consecutive WRC driver’s title, a title that later Evo generations failed to achieve.

Hardcore fans especially admire the bare-bones RS version, which is stripped of superfluous features like noise insulation and power amenities to reduce weight, boost acceleration and sharpen handling reflexes. Comfort and quietness are compromised, but for those who enjoy driving hard, the raw performance and brutal efficiency of the RS are hard to beat¬ — especially when imported affordably from Japan.

Handling is impressive thanks to independent suspension, a highly rigid chassis and [...]

1990 Mercedes 190 E 2.5-16 Evolution II

Winged to win. The BMW-battling Evo II from Mercedes.
Mercedes Evo II

The legendary Evo II is not your average executive saloon. Mercedes-Benz was so intent on defeating BMW in the German Touring Car Championship (DTM) that it took the design to extremes.

In response to FIA homologation regulations prohibiting aerodynamic enhancements beyond those on the road car, it equipped the Evo II with full-competition bodywork including massive fenders, aggressive skirts and a chin splitter low enough to mow lawns. The rear suspension was also made height adjustable for further downforce optimization.

To overcome regulations preventing any impediment of rearward vision, Mercedes raised the spoiler to unheard of heights and covered the top of the rear window to block any glimpse. This shockingly brash solution not only generates ample downforce, but delivers an impressive drag coefficient that increases maximum vehicle speed.

The 1990 release of the Evo II launched epic battles with BMW in the DTM that are still celebrated by enthusiasts today. The AMG-modified Evo II [...]

Lancia Delta Integrale Evoluzione

The most successful model in rally car history. The phenomenally fun-to-drive Lancia Delta Integrale.
Lancia Delta Integrale

Even supercar owners love driving the Lancia Delta Integrale because it grips the road like glue and handles challenging road conditions with ease. You can confidently push it harder than you ever thought possible and always come out smiling.

Released in 1987 to meet the homologation requirements of Group A rally racing, the Lancia Delta Integrale outperformed everything in its price range. It also became the most successful model in rally car history by winning six consecutive WRC titles (1987-92), four drivers’ championships (1987-89, 1991) and 46 victories overall.

The secret to its success was a winning combination of legendary handling and high power-to-weight ratio. By virtually eliminating wheelspin, its three-differential 4WD system with 47:53 front-to-rear torque distribution and maximum 70% rear lockup delivers unbelievable traction, especially around curves. Where you point, the Delta Integrale goes!

The fuel-injected, 2.0-liter, 16-valve inline-four engine in the Evoluzione II generates 212 bhp at 5750 rpm to propel you [...]

Mitsubishi Lancer Evo Wagon 2006

Ultra modern. Ultra quick. Very reliable. Very practical. With the Evo Wagon you get your futuristic rocket mobile and still get the practicality of a proper station wagon.
JDM Vehicles

There are some cars that, when I look at them, I feel like I’m living right now in the high tech, space age future that I used to imagine as a boy. In that future which was to me a kind of mix of Star Trek, Star Wars, and Blade Runner, I would be like Harrison Ford: cool, good looking, and fast. All the girls would be like Rachel: sexy, smart, and fast. And all the cars would be like the Lamborghini Countach: modern looking, muscular, and fast. They would have seats like imaginary rocket fighter plane pilot’s seats. They would look serious, and they would go like jets. Basically, they would be like this wicked black 2006 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution Wagon which we sourced recently at the used car auctions here in Japan.

The ninth generation of Mitsubishi’s rocket car has, is, what I imagined the cars of the exciting sci-fi future would have, [...]

Mitsubishi Pajero Evolution 1997

This has got to be the hottest SUV ever. We are still finding good examples of this rally legend here in Japan.
JDM Vehicles

There are SUVs here and SUVs there on the roads worldwide these days. It’s a very successful class of vehicle that didn’t even exist when I was first in the market for a car, but now they are everywhere. And here in Japan, too, the SUV has really caught on because of its higher driver’s seat position and better view, because of its good load capacity, and, because in the snow county areas and for those people who need some 4wd capability but don’t need a full-on off-road brute like a Toyota Land Cruiser or a Suzuki Jimny, the SUV is the perfect choice.

But in this now very popular class of vehicle, there is nothing quite like the Mitsubishi Pajero Evolution: This SUV is really a homologation special that was originally purpose built for the Paris Dakar Rally. The engine is a special tuned version of Mitsubishi’s 3.5 liter V6 with the addition of [...]

I’m into cars for guys. I drive cars for guys. I write about cars for guys. Mostly. So, yeah, I can’t relate to the car as accessory thing, or, at least, I couldn’t relate until, on our Car Café Day, I was properly introduced to the cutest little fun Japanese sporting machine by the cutest little Japanese sporty girl. The Girl In the first two parts of our Car Café series here on our Japan Car Direct Blog (click here for Part 1 and here for Part 2), I introduced you to a couple of the members of the car café, namely: “The Prez,” with his mighty, tuned Hakosuka Skyline, and “Mr Taxi,” with [...]

1996 Honda Integra R-Type (Four Door, DB8 Chassis)

Truly Stunning Handling, Understated Beauty and Classy Styling; the Integra R-Type (DB8 Chassis) Is Very Possibly the Best FF Sports Sedan Ever
5. Honda Integra R-Type, DB8 four door version. Imported from Japan to USA via Japan
Some years ago the company I was working for, an insurance outfit, arranged a track day for the motor engineers, vehicle inspectors, and underwriters. That’s where I met my first Integra R-Type. There was a big track where we could play with the (de-tuned, thank God!) formula cars, a middle-size track for the road going sports cars, your Lotuses, Caterhams, Audi TTs, Honda S2000s, and such like; and there was a smaller, tighter, kill-you-on-the-corners track that was exclusively for the Integra R-Types. They kept the R-Types on this track, 1) to show off their fantastic cornering and, 2) to avoid putting all those more expensive sports cars to shame. The Integra could out handle them. He’d show them all a clean pair of heels in the twisties. 1. Honda Integra R-Type, 4-door, from Japan. Now can be imported to USA and Australia R-Type: Simply Unbelievable We were in the two door sports coupe Integra R-Types, the DC2 chassis cars, and I can say flat out that [...]

The Guy Who Started It All

Interview with Japan Car Direct (JCD) Founder, Scott Bower.
Interview with Scott Japan Car Direct 3
Let's find the ideal car for you today!! Why have so many guys imported a used car from Japan via us here at JCD? For 15 years now we've been exporting good second hand JDM cars to the USA, the UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the EU, and many other countries.

Interview with Scott Japan Car Direct 3

It's our job and our pleasure to do three simple things: to help our customers score the right used vehicle, in the right condition, and at the right price. These simple targets have allowed us to attain Google's Five Star Customer Satisfaction Rating.

It's simple, yes, but there's a lot that goes into doing it right, and people who want to get a good deal on importing a used car from Japan themselves always have lots of questions about the process, and about why importing a used car from Japan is the best way to win a great vehicle. People have questions ab [...]

1994 Toyota Celica GT-4 (3S-GTE Engine)

Performance, Handling, Beauty and Build Quality; The Toyota Celica GT-4 (ST205) is the Best Value and Best Looking Turbo AWD Rocket
Celica GT-4 GT-Four 1994 from Japan. Best Looking Japanese Supercar
The ST205 is an Unsung Champion Selling for Reasonable Money (for Now) I got a great deal on my used Celica GT-4, a silver 1995 model year car that I bought here in Japan from a dealer in Shizuoka City. And to all the guys looking for an affordable supercar that you can import from Japan yourself, I recommend the Toyota Celica GT-4 (ST205 chassis type). Here's a picture of mine. Beautiful Japanese Supercar This black 1994 GT-4 that we are looking at here is being imported to Australia (via Melbourne). This one is now over 25 years old so it is easy for him to be imported to the Land Down Under. (For information on importing a used Japanese car to Australia just have a look on our website here.) Now my recommendation is based on a number of things: The GT-4 is very well built (had to be to be a WRC winner, of course), has very high performance (low 5s 0-60mph), terrific handling (Toyota's Super Strut Suspension System is a cracking good system), lo [...]

1994 Toyota Crown Majesta

A JDM luxury car with V8 power!
1994 Crown Majesta
Dignified and luxurious. The 1994 Toyota Crown Majesta Whenever you see a black Toyota Crown Majesta in Japan, you can assume it’s a corporate limousine for a VIP executive. Every black Crown Majesta I’ve seen has been in sparkling condition with an impeccably groomed driver either chauffeuring an executive or buffing the finish to perfection before picking the executive up. In the late 1980s, I was deeply impressed by a ride in the Majesta’s predecessor, the Crown Royal Saloon. Longer and wider than other Toyota Crowns, it was remarkably quiet, refined and comfortable. In 1991, this model evolved into the even more impressive Crown Majesta, which makes any driver or passenger feel like a million bucks. The luxurious Crown Majesta is Toyota’s answer to makers like Mercedes Benz. It shares flagship status with Toyota’s other full-size luxury sedan, the Toyota Century, which is more conservative and can only be purchased new by invitation from Toyota. The 1994 Toyota Crown Majesta features a 4.0-liter V8 engine (260 hp) that was tuned to satisfy the most fastidious Japanese execut [...]

Some people say that there are no “aspirational vehicles” any more. No cars that a serious motoring enthusiast can really aspire to, really want. No cars that, when you see one drive past you on the road, make you say: “I want that car! I gotta have one!” 1995 Lancia Delta Integrale EVO II Final Edition Yeah, I guess it’s true in a way. And certainly for me, when I look at most modern cars, with their regulated, semi-egg-shaped bodies, their narrow, darkly tinted side and rear windows, and their meaningless body panel press lines, I don’t feel myself really wanting, strongly wanting, what the car makers are offering me today. But whe [...]

And I don't mean the dates with the babes that you are hoping to get when you have a cool, smooth, powerful, and high quality set of wheels, like a Crown The Best Toyota Luxury Cars, Part 1 or a Crown Majesta,
Let's find the ideal car for you today!! But what is a “supercar”? How would you define it? Is it, in fact, even possible to come up with a definition that all car lovers will agree with? I’m not sure, but let me give you my own boyhood definition of “supercar” and how I arrived at the definition. First off, some background. I grew up in Canada, and when I was young there were no supercars in my neighbourhood. We had only American sedans, wagons, and vans. These are not supercars, obviously. There was a smattering of sports cars: older British roadsters like a Triumph Spitfire or an MG Midget, cars that rarely started and kind  of just sat there looking a bit grimier month by month (or year by year if they lasted that long). The Canadian winter slaughtered those cars. There were a few Italian sports cars, a Fiat 124 Spider with its fine balance lines, and a Fiat 850 spider, looking so tiny between the fat sedans parked along the side of the street. Those cars never started much, either. Their owners washed them a few times in the summer and then the Canadian winter killed them off, too. But, [...]
Let's find the ideal car for you today!! Many great JDM European cars are reaching their 25th birthday in 2020 — which means you can legally import them to your home country even if you live in the United States. Japan may not be the first market that comes to mind when searching for a used European car. But there are many advantages to importing one from Japan including: - Japanese revere European cars and keep them in outstanding condition. - European car makers often raise vehicle specs for the Japanese market. - Japan’s used car market is huge, with diverse choices and great prices. - There are no autobahns encouraging excessive driving at high speeds. - Japanese roads have fewer potholes and less road salt to cause problems. - Many elderly Japanese are selling their European cars from the 1990s. In this article, we present five 1995 JDM European cars that our Japan Car Direct team can heartily recommend and would greatly enjoy sourcing for exp [...]
Let's find the ideal car for you today!! The Pre ’98 Exotics I’ve been singing the praises of the hatchback-type Japanese Kei Sports cars in the earlier posts (here and here) about these vehicles on our blog here at Japan Car Direct, and, if my editor would let me, I’d continue on and on about how great these cars are. And I’d also go on and on about why, if you are seriously into light sports cars, you should equally seriously be considering importing a Kei Sports car yourself direct from Japan, as that is totally the best way to get a good, unthrashed and well-maintained unit. One thing (of the many things) that pulls me toward the hatchbacks in the Kei Sports category is their practicality. And the fact that a hatchback Kei Sports car is practical (small on the outside for getting into and out of tight spots, big on the inside for carrying luggage and people) is one thing that kept me in my Kei Sports car for eight and a half years o [...]
Let's find the ideal car for you today!! In Part 1 of our two-part series, we introduced air-cooled Porsche 911s from the 70s and 80s. Incredible Group B Rally auction featuring Lancia Delta S4 Stradale

Bonhams auction house in Carmel, California will be auctioning seven Group B rally machines from the ‘70s and '80s this August. Especially exciting to many vintage rally enthusiasts is the inclusion of a Lancia Delta S4 Stradale and two other Lancia rally machines that pushed automotive design to the limits in pursuit of road-handling perfection and virtually dominated the rally scene in [...]

1991 Nissan Skyline R32 GT-R

The only Japanese supercar of its generation. One of the best cars Jeremy Clarkson says he ever drove. The legendary Skyline R32 GT-R!
1991 Nissan Skyline R32 GT-R

The Skyline R32 GT-R (Grand Tourismo Racer) — nicknamed “Godzilla” for effortlessly crushing all competitors in Group A Series racing — won 29 consecutive races in the Japanese Touring Car Championship and three consecutive championships in the Australian Touring Car Championship after being reintroduced by Nissan in 1989.

This remarkable track record is part of the reason the Skyline R32 GT-R has such a strong cult-like following among serious car enthusiasts around the world. Other reasons include impressive appearances in games and popular street racing movies like The Fast and Furious series, a reputation for having launched the JDM car scene, a leading role in serious street and drag racing, the exclusivity wrought by a 25-year import restriction in the United States — which finally ended in 2014 — and performance that is nothing short of incredible. If you want maximum bang for the buck, it’s hard to beat a well-tuned Skyline R32 GT-R imported [...]

2007 Mercedes-Benz CL550

Luxury, power and respect. The 2007 Mercedes-Benz CL550!
2007 Mercedes Benz cl550
The 2007 Mercedes-Benz CL550, known as the CL500 outside of Japan and the United States, is praised by the cultured elite for its superb balance of luxury and performance. The understated styling of its smooth, aerodynamic body with low roofline and no B-pillar conveys taste and prestige. Inside, the spacious interior indulges with sumptuous leather, classic wood trim and a dizzying array of cutting-edge comfort, safety and entertainment features made swiftly accessible by user-friendly COMAND (Cockpit Management and Data System). Power is generated smoothly and effortlessly by a 5.5-liter V8 powerplant with variably adjustable camshafts and two-stage intake. While barely audible at most revolutions, it reaches an exhilarating crescendo during full acceleration that can race the CL550 from zero to sixty miles per hour in 5.4 seconds courtesy of 382 hp and 391 lb-ft of torque. The seven-speed automatic transmission shifts smoothly and nearly imperceptibly until you accelerate hard to enter a lower gear. Sport, Comfort and Manual modes that affect both power and suspension settings are selectable on the center console, and buttons on the steering wheel let you shift up or down with a press. Driving luxury is enhanced by [...]

2003 Renault Clio V6 Renault Sport

Crazy and tantalizing! The Phase 2 Clio V6 Renault Sport.
midship renault clio 2003

Handbuilt by Renault Sport. Performance-enhanced by Porsche. The Phase 2 Clio V6 Renault Sport was the world’s most powerful mass-produced hot hatch when released in 2003.

Tom Walkinshaw Racing built the first version (Phase 1) in 2001 by reinforcing the chassis of a Renault Clio, removing its front-mounted engine and mounting a high-performance 3.0-liter V6 engine in the middle of the vehicle in place of the rear seats! This radical departure from convention increased acceleration, raised maximum speed and generated a 911esque roar from behind the front seats that is truly exhilarating.

But Renault wasn’t satisfied. In 2003, Renault Sport teamed with Porsche to further boost performance. This included modifying the 3.0-liter, 24-valve DOHC RS V6 engine to produce an additional 25 horses for a total of 255 PS at 7,150 rpm — a whole lot of muscle for a compact 3-door hatchback. The resulting Phase 2 version accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in [...]

1990 Land Cruiser 80 series

Rugged, reliable and still looking great! The 1990 Land Cruiser 80 series.
Land Cruiser 80 series

The Land Cruiser, Toyota’s longest running series, has been going strong since the early 1950s when it was a jeep-like vehicle christened with a Land Rover-inspired name. Over the years, the Land Cruiser evolved into a much larger vehicle, but it never strayed from its serious off-road heritage.

Toyota launched the 80 series in early 1990 (1991 in the US) as a luxurious replacement for the aging 60 series. Its smooth lines initially disappointed off-roaders who associated boxiness with rugged design. However, the fresh styling broadened the Land Cruiser’s appeal around the globe and eventually won over enthusiasts as well.

The 80 series introduced the Land Cruiser’s first full-time 4WD system. Part-time 4WD with manual locking hubs was also available in Japan, but not in the US — a good reason for Americans to consider importing secondhand models from Japan.

A totally new suspension gave the 80 series better handling and ride comfort than its [...]

1991 Honda Beat E-PP1

As fun as a supercar at a fraction of the cost! The Honda Beat mini midship roadster.
25 year old Honda Beat

The Honda Beat is a cross between a Honda NSX and go kart, and the most beloved JDM minicar ever produced.

Now that first-generation Honda Beats have reached their 25th birthday, Americans can finally discover what they’ve been missing all these years by importing Honda Beats from Japan under the 25-year rule.

The Beat was designed by Pininfarina and developed by a particularly young and passionate team of Honda engineers. It was also the last automobile Soichiro Honda the founder of Honda ever approved for production.

When released in 1991, the Beat stole the hearts of millions and sold like hotcakes in the Japanese market until a major recession took its toll. After producing two domestic models and selling fewer than 34,000 units in 6 years, Honda sold the design to MG (which used it to produce the MG F) and ended production of the Beat in 1996.

Despite boundless enthusiasm from an ever-hopeful fan [...]

2002 Impreza WRX STi Spec C Type RA

Hardcore taken to extremes! The Impreza WRX STi Spec C Type RA
2002 Impreza WRX STi Type RA Spec C

The 2002 Subaru Impreza WRX STi Type RA Spec C is one serious performance machine with handling and acceleration that rival some of the world’s fastest production vehicles.

“WRX” (World Rally Cross*) tells you it was rally inspired with a high-performance turbocharged engine, stiff suspension and AWD. “STi” (Subaru Tecnica International) assures you it was only released in Japan and features an engine, transmission and suspension specially tuned by Subaru’s in-house tuner. “Type RA” (Rally Applicant) indicates it was specially stripped down to lower weight and improve performance. “Spec C” conveys an extra level of performance refinement. And “Bugeye” headlights reveal this was an early model from Impreza’s popular second generation, which featured an especially stiff chassis and powerful engine.

STi Imprezas are popular among enthusiasts and private rally teams importing vehicles from Japan, and the Type RA version is particularly appealing because of its higher performance. In 2002 models, the Type RA offers not [...]

1998 Alpina B10 V8

Power. Luxury. Prestige. The Alpina B10 V8 is everything a demanding business executive could ask for, and more.
BMW Alpina B10

Some drivers are willing to pay whatever it takes for a vehicle that unquestionably surpasses the ultimate driving machine. For these demanding perfectionists, there is the Alpina B10 V8.

Alpina, the Bavarian carmaker renowned for tuning and racing in the 1960s, became so accomplished at improving the performance and luxury of BMWs that it was granted the extraordinary privilege of selling its modified vehicles at BMW dealerships with full BMW warranties.

The B10 V8, one of the most popular models in Alpina’s history, was a dramatically modified BMW 540i offering considerably improved performance and an interior so tasteful and refined that one can easily imagine business executives giving up their chauffeured limousines to savor the B10 V8 driving experience.

Alpina received the 540i straight from BMW’s production line and immediately replaced its engine block with a larger 4.6-liter cousin fitted with lighter Mahle pistons, higher performance camshafts, a larger crankshaft and a reprogrammed Bosch Motronic [...]

1988 BMW E30 M3

Racing machine meets four-seater in one of the greatest cars of all time. The legendary BMW E30 M3.
Japan Car Direct

For many car enthusiasts, one series comes to mind when they see the renowned slogan “The Ultimate Driving Machine” — the E30 M3. Developed to meet homologation standards for competition in the European Touring Car Championship (ETCC), the E30 M3 so vastly exceeded expectations in both racing success and worldwide sales that BMW built five M3 generations and continues to sell them today.

The first generation of the M3, the E30 M3 (1986-1991) blew away targeted competitors Mercedes-Benz and Audi from the very beginning and became the most successful touring car in racing history, earning more titles than even the Porsche 911. Its seemingly endless list of victories (over 1,500 by some counts) includes one title in the World Touring Car Championship, two titles in the European Touring Car Championship, four titles in the Italia Superturismo Championship and five wins at 24 Hours Nürburgring.

Used E30 M3’s can still be found in great condition in [...]

1991 Ferrari Testarossa

Wicked fast and drop-dead gorgeous. The ultimate symbol of success in the 80s and 90s. The flashy and tantalizing Ferrari Testarossa.
Ferrari Testarossa

The radically aggressive styling of the Ferrari Testarossa took the world by storm when unveiled at the Paris Motor Show in 1984. Few cars in history have so dramatically influenced pop culture and automotive design. Adolescent boys covered their walls with Testarossa posters, millionaires drove Testarossas as a testament to their taste, and celebrities drove Testarossas to flaunt their fame. For many, Testarossa ownership was the ultimate status symbol.

Rocketing the Testarossa from 0–60mph in under 5.2 seconds was a magnificent 4.9-liter flat twelve-cylinder engine with four valves per cylinder and double overhead camshafts — the most powerful production engine of its day. The impressive 390 horsepower (440 hp on later models) and 490 newton metres of torque peaked at relatively low rpm to deliver pleasingly smooth response at all revolutions. Such tractable power was unheard of in supercars and contributed to the Testarossa’s robust sales.

One of the Testarossa’s most distinctive features, the flamboyant [...]

2000 Subaru Impreza WRX Type R

The limited edition Impreza WRX Type R is that very rare class of vehicle: The attainable supercar.
Japan Car Direct
Last and Best of the Hawkeye Imprezas When you decide to import a used Impreza WRX from Japan you are immediately confronted with quite a variety of sub types. And they are all too good cars, too. If you are looking at the first series, the "Hawkeye" Imprezas, you've got (with the 1,994cc EJ20 flat four engine) the WRX, the WRX STi, the WRX Type R, and the WRX Type RA (I'm sure there is a version that I've missed here); of the Impreza WRX STi itself there are six versions (Versions I to Version VI), and then there is the S201 subtype of STi Impreza and also the 22B subtype. The 22B comes with Subaru's 2,012cc EJ22 power unit, which is also a flat four. It's nearly the same engine as the EJ20 except that it is bored up from 92mm to 96.9mm (stroke remains the same), and it has a somewhat different power curve; it's more oriented to the lower rpm range than the EJ20 is. My WRX was a 1996 STi Version III, looking almost exactly like this rocket

Lancia Delta Integrale 1995

What a beauty! Beautiful color! Beautiful body! The Delta Integrale is the full, the complete, the total rally car. But you’ll not want to dirty this beauty on a muddy back road.
Japan Car Direct

To import a Lancia Delta Integrale from Japan may seem like a strange way to get your hands on a clean example of this truly iconic Italian sports car, but, in fact, it may be the best way.

Look at this 1995 Lancia Delta Integrale Evoluzione 2 that we just shipped from Japan to our customer overseas: Beautiful exterior condition (rated high at Grade 4 by the inspector), quite nice interior condition, and decently low kilometers for the year (103,000kms, or just 64,000 miles); overall in very fine shape for one of these cars and better than you can expect for the price if you buy one in Europe or Italy.

In Japan, anyone who has a Lancia Delta (or really any great Italian performance car, be it Ferrari, Lamborghini, Lancia, etc.,) is treasuring that car. Really treasuring it: enjoying it, maintaining it and keeping it in good shape. So if you want to import [...]

Toyota Supra 1995

A car that looks as fast as it is. (And that is very, very fast indeed.) The beautiful and aggressive exterior aero mods to this Supra fit right in with the interior and tuning mods and make it a spectacular machine.
Japan Car Direct

Whenever we export a Toyota Supra I feel great. Actually, I feel super. (Sorry, couldn’t resist.) Why? Because one of the reasons we like doing this business of exporting used cars from Japan to countries like the UK, Canada, New Zealand, the US, and Australia is that we can share the fun and joy of reasonably priced, good quality sports and performance cars with other car fans worldwide.

These days if you want a truly quick car that is not too much money you are going to have to buy a used car. The makers of reasonably priced cars are just not giving us anything today like the Supra or the Skyline GT-R or the faster Imprezas and Evos. If you want low fives or even sub fives in your 0-60 times and you don’t want (or, like me, can’t afford) a Porsche, then you’ve got to go Japanese turbo from the 1990s. These cars [...]

Subaru Impreza 1999

Serious power plus modest weight plus all wheel drive means right quick. The Impreza WRX STi gives you the best bang for the buck 0-60, and top class handling, too. And you can have it all in a practical (and wicked-looking) wagon body.
JDM Vehicles

The best part about this business of exporting used cars from Japan is the chance to help other car fans, petrol heads, gear heads, motor maniacs….whatever you want to call us….to get their hands on a good, reasonably priced, Japanese performance car.

Pound for pound and dollar for dollar, I think that your 1990s and 2000s Japanese turbo cars like the Lancer Evo from Mitsubishi, the Supra TT, Celica GT-Four, MR2 Turbo, and Soarer Turbo from Toyota, the Skyline GT-R and GT-S from Nissan, and especially the all-wheel drive Impreza WRX STi from Subaru give you by far the best bang for the buck.

Helping a fellow performance car fan in Halifax, Canada to import this 1999 Impreza WRX STi Sports Wagon was a delightful bit of work for me since this is exactly the car that I myself have at the moment. AND I LOVE IT TO BITS! Mine is a 1996 but it [...]

Extreme Camber in Japanese Cars

The smooth-shifting 7-speed automatic transmission provides a Sport mode for sportier acceleration and a stiffer ride. You can also press “M” to manually shift [...]
