						I asked Japan Car Direct to sell my old Rav4J just before I left Japan in September. Got almost $2,000 total for it, which was amazing. In Japan, there is ZERO resale value for cars. In fact, when I "sold" my old Eunos Roadster (Miyata) to a resale place, the said they were being generous giving me $50 for it. So actually getting a VERY fair price for my old car from JCD definitely put a smile on my face. So thanks for that, guys!

If you are reading this and have any concern about buying from Japan don’t, they are definitely the partner you want. Mike was helpful beyond fault with the many video reports he sent, each as cheerful and informative the last, he patiently and politely answered every email instantly and question I had along with my concern about sending money. I need not have worried. JDC seamlessly handled everything including at the UK end by hooking me up with an import company who charged a fair price for off loading the car and getting it through customs and it was there ready at the agreed pick up time. I cannot convey how impressed I was with everyone and am just about to buy another car as I love the car and the service. There is a reason they have so many 5 star reviews. I am still amazed at how easy and smooth the process has been start to finish. This was my first time importing a car and Mike was excellent in answering all my questions when it came to all the steps of how things work and the timeline in which it takes to receive the car. 						I first stumbled upon Japan Car Direct LLC through their Facebook page and on their website. I plan on writing a full review once my car arrives, but at the current moment I wish I could give them more than a 5/5. First, their website is extremely professional and has all of the information that you could ask for. The coolest part about the entire process is getting access to the auction house by registering with them. You can then see (and get translations) for the cars of your choice! Mathew and Scott providing AMAZING customer service. This being my first time, they answered more than 50 e-mails of my questions, and were always very professional. They did not pressure me to purchase a car either, rather, I gave them my specifications and they worked with me to find the vehicle of my choice. I believe their service charge is more than fair considering they do the bulk of the work for you. No matter what time of day, it seemed like Mat and Scott were there to help! In addition to cars, they can help you find parts, which I will need some for my car! While we did run into some minor issues (like my delaying of payment since they are international, and some [dealer - not Japan Car Direct] translation issues with the dealer we bought the car from), Mat and Scott quickly worked to resolve them. Overall, they are great guys, and I will purchase again from them again. If only they could invent a hoverboard to make the car arrive faster :)

						I purchased a JDM 2008 Toyota Prius through Japan Car Direct last year. The export agent, Mason, was easy to work with and made the process predictable and straight forward, so there were no surprises or hidden costs with the car itself and with logistics. The logistics supplier that Mason referred to in Vancouver to import the car into Canada was also very helpful and made the process stress free. Mason went above and beyond just facilitating the transaction and sourced new tires, rims, and accessories for the car that the car needed or that didn't come with the car. This was a big help as these parts and accessories for a 2008 Prius were either unavailable in Canada or would have cost an arm and a leg to purchase through a dealership. I was amazed at how good condition the car was in when it arrived. I picked it up in Vancouver and, right off the boat, drove it over 4000km straight to Ontario to get it home without any mechanical issues along the way.

						I purchased a 1994 4wd Suzuki Carry Kei truck through JCD. Yoshi helped me during the process and after nearly 3 months and over 100 emails back and forth between questions and translations of auction sheets I finally decided on a truck. I've now had it for nearly a month and couldn't be happier with the purchase. They are extremely promt with responses and answered all questions I had. Being completely new at the importing process I never felt uneasy with my decision. If I ever decide to import another vehicle I will definitely use them again.

I was more certain of what I did not want! Mason, my guide, was patient, even for the silliest questions, and eventually we whittled the choice down and then the acquisition of said car. 						We had been looking for a Toyota AE86 for many years, and in late 2022, decided to take the plunge and purchase from Japan a fabulous red over black example. After scoping out a number of agents/importers based in Japan, we settled on Japan Car Direct, and we're very happy that we did! We quickly found that communications with Matt and the Japan Car Direct team were always prompt, insightful and respectful, giving us a feeling of trust in the company. At our request Matt organised a mechanical and general inspection of the car, which was located a few hours north-east of Tokyo. Whilst the mechanic was looking at the car, we were able to do a video call through Matt so we could see the AE86 for ourselves and ask questions of the selling agent live - all beautifully translated by Matt. This gave us a digital first-hand viewing of the car, and was key to us making our final decision to purchase. The subsequent transaction for the purchase itself was a smooth and stress-free operation as we were guided through the process by Japan Car Direct. The entire process, from first communication, to the inspection, the transaction, the shipping process, and to when the car arrived - was all incredibly smooth and trouble-free. As a result of all this good service, we now have a wonderful JDM Toyota AE86 here in Australia. 						Ever since my first trip to Japan in 2016, I have wanted a kei vehicle. I was finally in a position to get one this year, but I didn't know where to start. After doing a lot of research and talking to a few folks who had done it before, I decided to use Japan Car Direct. The primary reason I chose JCD was that I kept hearing them described as "helpful" and "trustworthy". I think these two qualities are important, but particularly for a first time importer like myself. After all, I was going to be sending thousands of dollars halfway across the world for a vehicle I'd never seen, so I wanted someone I could trust and who would help me through the process. Yoshiro absolutely delivered on both counts for Japan Car Direct. From the first e-mail he was very responsive, took time to answer all my questions, and helped guide me to the right truck. The JCD team is great and I can't recommend them enough. I'm sure I will be doing business with them again when I'm ready for my next Japanese car! As for the vehicle, I snagged a very clean 1994 Acty SDX that showed up in even better condition than I expected. I just picked it up from the port the other day, I'll update with photos once I get it cleaned up!

						Just awesome people to deal with... I started my search for a JZA80 Supra 2 years ago by just looking on JCD because I was really scared that I would go into it with the money I had, and be overwhelmed by fees and other costs, I even made a spreadsheet with every cost listed on JCD’s website. And it turns out, that feeling I was scared of never came. Mathew at JCD is a gem, he helped me from my viewing days all the way to the end, translating and giving great advice on what the steps are, making everything crystal clear and easily digestible. All of my questions, and misunderstandings were dealt with with kindness and professionalism. Patience is a virtue that JCD (and from my experience Mathew) have in droves. Knowing how worried I was, Mathew's help was the reason I managed to stay sane through my first large purchase and my first vehicle import. Even up to the time when the car was out of Japan and en route to Canada, Mathew put me on to Al Thompson who was ALSO phenomenal to work with, he fought for me with the docks who have slowed down due to covid, and we got my Supra released in jig time! 						Japan Car Direct review TLDR: These guys are great to work with and 100% trustworthy. If you are going to import a vehicle, you aren’t going to find better people to manage the process. Importing a car is a gearhead rite of passage into the upper echelon of status and street cred. Spoken of in hushed tones in closely gathered circles almost always in terms of “someday.” It always seemed like dating a move star to me; I knew it was technically a thing. But the in-roads to achieve it were shrouded in darkness and mystery. Besides, even if you managed to sneak into the smoky back room where the action happened, what then? What you need is a Obi-Wan. A wise guide with the patina of years and experience under their belt - funky robe and weird smells optional. Enter Japan Car Direct. I was admittedly nervous. I had spent days reading reviews and references. I contacted several companies in speed-dating fashion hoping to find someone to put my nervous mind at ease. With what I am sure was an annoying number of emails, it seemed clear to me Japan Car Direct was the smartest route. Their reputation seemed solid and they handled my naive, kid-with-an-inhaler-and-too-much-emotional-investment-in-an-obscure-SiFi-storyline obsessive questions with grace and patience. They walked me through the process. Broke down the completely reasonable charges into terms even I could manage, and took the time to expediently respond to my flurry of electronic “But, what about”s. When things got serious, they treated me like more of a friend they were doing a solid than a client. I would message them daily about cars I found on the auction listing I thought would scratch my strange itch. They always responded quickly with honest opinions and information. I had sent my deposit. They had my money. It would have been in their financial interest to get me out of the virtual door with the first car I was panting about and move on to the next client. But, they didn’t do that at all. They actually talked me out of 4-5 vehicles before we found one that fit the bill and they felt was a good option. Then, for less than I’ve spent on a single Starbucks run, then had someone go and put hands on the vehicle. Check it out, start it, fiddle with things and make sure it was a good bet. I received a optimistic, but reserved assessment. Which I jumped on like a high schooler on a prom date. I wired money. I screwed it up (research what is actual takes to send significant amounts of money overseas before you try, btw. It isn’t hard, but I really wish I thought of that part before. It was a bit of a mad dash because I was a newbie and totally clueless.) They were very understanding about the whole thing. They made arrangements, got the car to and on the boat. Managed strange and exotic paperwork that I had no clue existed. It all felt very Bourgeois. Like I had people in other countries managing my affairs. The vehicle magically arrived and it was so much better than I expected. Their standards exceeded mine. Honestly, after purchasing and having a vehicle imported with Japan Car Direct, I wouldn’t hesitate to do it again. It is much easier than I expected and less expensive than I assumed. They are fantastic to work with and the entire experience was great.

						I used Japan Car Direct to bid and win a Daihatsu HiJet Cargo. Mason was my point of contact and was brilliant in guiding me through the process, detailing how to make the initial deposit to allow bidding, detailing the auction costs and shipping costs, so that I could work out a budget. The platform for searching vehicles that are coming to auction was easy to use, and Mason was very helpful in explaining all the vehicle description codes and provided a really useful review for individual vehicles that I short listed, and then arranged for the vehicle to be independently inspected prior to bidding. Payment on my winning vehicle was straight forward by BACs to Japan Car Direct and then Mason took care of arranging shipping, and sending through the bill of lading and other documents. Once the vehicle arrived at the JCD yard I received very comprehensive photos. Shipping took about 7 weeks from Japan to Newcastle in the UK, and the vehicle arrived safely in perfect condition. I used RJJ Freight for customs clearance, which made the process of getting the vehicle into the UK stress free.

Matt puts up with a very demanding customer in me, I can certainly take up time. Matt sends me cars from the list I sent him, when I don't have time to check the auction. It is scary how accurate Matt is when I ask him to predict a selling price. He is always very close which sometimes is not fun but he really does know pricing. They have walked we through buying two cars now and have held my hand on both. I really apricate all the time and knowledge. After purchase they have also held my hand through the whole import process which can be daunting for a first timer. I am a dealer and Matt is great at suggesting other cars to import as well. 						This is as good as no-sight car buying can get and I 100% recommend using these guys. Take your time, work with them, and you'll get exactly what you want. I was in the market for a Skyline and told Yoshiro what I was looking for ('98 or older, RWD, no rust, no accidents). He asked a few questions to gauge how much I cared about different aspects. I sent them the deposit and got started. From there I used their auction database to find cars I was interested in and I spent about a month looking at different auctions. Many times Yoshiro would discover something about the car I wouldn't have caught that made it a no-go, and his honesty probably saved me from a few lemons. Eventually this R34 closed without meeting reserve, and Yoshiro guided me through the negotiations process (which I was completely unfamiliar with). You only need 1 bank transfer to pay the rest of the fees which simplifies things. After that was done he got the car moved to the shipping yard. This was during peak covid, so of course there were tons of delays getting it onto a ship. Yoshiro provided regular updates, and once it was loaded he immediately sent me all the relevant documents and helped me find a broker to transport it from the port to my house. I'm extremely happy with the car and am super grateful that I had the help I did from the JCD guys to get it. It was honestly way simpler and easier than I thought it was going to be, and I almost prefer it to buying from dealerships!

Their services are exactly what you'd hope for - they help you find the right vehicle at the right price, and they help you get it on its way to a port near you. Mike's guidance around the timing and paperwork ends was really great. We picked up our Mitsubishi Minicab in Freeport, TX and got it home over the weekend (on schedule). 						Mathew and the gang were great with helping me with the acquisition of my 1994 Subaru Sambar dump kei truck. I was so excited about getting a truck I was ready to buy just about anything. Matt put the breaks on that and used his experience and knowledge to weed out the potential problems. I use my truck almost daily around our farm moving things and as a work surface. It is great. 						I recently found JCD through an article online about importing vehicles into the US. I sent them an email and Yoshiro was quick to get back. He too was from California which was helpful when it came to registering the vehicle, recommending diesel vehicles. When it came to finding a vehicle, I essentially send Yoshiro the link's to vehicles that I want translated. But he takes it a step further often using his own personal intuition to let me know if we should pass or bid on a vehicle. To be honest I was a little skeptical at first. Buying and shipping a vehicle from another country is a scary project. About two months later we were about to find a 1996 Townace in good condition at a great price...Yoshiro can tell you how difficult I was in finding it. 100% recommend Yoshiro and the guys at Japan Car Direct and am already looking for my 2nd import!

						I was considering importing a vehicle into Canada from Japan for a while and explored a few different companies but ultimately ended up going with JCD because of their exemplary customer service and I was not disappointed with my decision. I sent JCD about 100 emails (no lie, I wanted to be absolutely sure about the process and everything and they answered most of them prior to me committing to buy a car through them) and they responded to every single one of my questions. The purchasing process was easy and I ended up getting a nice little Mercedes for the summer. Even after JCD had finished their business with me and I was working with an importer they recommended (who was also a pleasure to work with) and I had a couple of outstanding questions they again answered me promptly, honestly and, most importantly, knowledgeably. These guys bid in the auction for you and have a mechanic inspect the car (optional for a small fee) so you know exactly what you're getting. The car I got was exactly as described to me, no surprises and had it on the road almost immediately. If you check out a lot of the other japanese exporters who have selection of cars to choose from and check the auction sheets which are often posted it's easy to see that they are trying to sell crappy cars (typically they are rated R for repaired). I cannot recommend JCD enough and I think I'll probably get my next 'daily driver' through them as well. The process was easy, they were knowledgeable and, most importantly, I got a great deal on a car.

						I’ve had the pleasure of dealing with Scott and Japan Car Direct for almost 10 years now. I already owned a kei truck when I found JCD but was looking for an honest and reliable way to source new and used OEM parts from Japan. Scott and JCD was the way to go! He has always been there to take an email or skype call to answer any question I may have. Provides translations and offers plenty of advice from sourcing parts to different shipping options. I’ve been able to import OEM kei truck parts for far less than buying aftermarket parts from a handful of dealers here in the US. With EMS shipping, I’ve had parts in as quick as 3 days. 						I'd been looking to buy an RF series Honda Stepwagon to convert into a mini camper for a while but the UK prices always seemed too high. I had joined a few JDM import sites to get an idea of auction prices and costs (including Japan Car Direct) but just couldn't bring myself to take the next step, it seemed such a risk ! Finally after reading so many good reviews for JCD (and Mathew in particular) I took the plunge and contacted Mathew. After he answered my many questions regarding costs, fees etc I felt confident enough to pay the deposit and start hunting the Japanese auctions for my Steppy. My budget for the Steppy was pretty low (pathetic even !) but I felt Mat still put the same effort into replying to my questions and queries as he would have done if my budget had been into the tens of thousands. The result was I now have a very tidy Stepwagon with lower mileage than any vehicle I've ever owned, I've paid far less for it then I would have done buying in the UK and I've got a bigger budget now for the camper conversion. I wouldn't hesitate to buy through them again, and hope to do so soon.
